Happy Wednesday Everyone,
Sometimes in life - you get the bounces - and sometimes you don’t.
That was the case at MSG last night - as the Rangers fell to the Florida Panthers, 4-3.
The Rangers had a 35-17 shot advantage - holding the Cats to one shot in the third - the game winner.
But your heroes showed once again - with yet another third period comeback - that they have the mindset, work ethic and growing skill set to make the playoffs - and do some damage once they get there.
Now - they get a much needed week off as the NHL prepares for its All-Star Festivities.
So here are the particulars, as I see ‘em:
Mats Zuccarello - Three helpers for the noble gnome - as he continues to show that belongs in the NHL. No other Ranger can make such big plays in such small spaces.
Brian and Brandon - Boyle and Prust - Prust and Boyle. These two guys are unbelievable. The effort. The heart. The hustle. And much more ability than we could have known. I mean, 18 goals for Boyle? Seven for Prust - including three shorties? Amazing.
Derek Stepan - #21 has 14 goals on the season - with 20 plus a distinct possibility. Not too shabby for the rook.
Some of the walking wounded will return soon - Both Ryan Callahan and surprisingly Vinny Prospal have been activated from injured reserve. Dan Girardi should be good to go when the team returns from the break. Brandon Dubinski, Ruslan Fedotenko and Erik Christensen are not too far behind.
The bounce off Artem Anisimov's back that lead to the game winning goal by Mike Weaver. Those things happen - you just shake it off and move on. Hey remember - Artie scored the shootout game winner against the Caps on Monday night.
As a DirecTV subscriber - I watch the games on NHL Center Ice. As a resident of South Florida - I have to suffer through the Panthers broadcast when they go to MSG. It got so bad listening to Steve Goldstein and Bill Lindsay for me that I hit the mute button on my remote for the third period. Where’s Sam when you need him?
The Bottom Line
29-20-3 heading into the break - returning on Tuesday, February 1 for a tilt against the Crosbys at The World’s Most Famous.
30 games to go - heading down the home stretch with the team’s best players on the mend. Be proud of this team. The best is yet to come.
